About
Angus Docherty’s new blog. Named after a Sufi saint buried in Bukhara whose tomb I visited in the summer of 2022. Turki Zhandi - a Turk from Jand (Zhand). The story attached to the saint, as I remember it, was that when someone rode across the city boundaries, if they had not paid obeisance to God, or the saint, or prayed, or something like that, they would be thrown off their camel. Well, perhaps that can be a metaphor for something—maybe the truth dethroning liars or intellectual frauds, or the righteous defeating the wicked. Something like that. In fact, I may have misremembered the entire story, since I forgot to take pictures of the tomb’s explanatory signs! Still, I think it works.
Why subscribe to Turki Zhandi?
I plan to write on a wide range of subjects, including esoterics, aesthetics, philosophy, culture, politics, and many more. I shall write solely about subjects which interest me, which are extremely diverse. Regularity is unlikely, unfortunately, since the extent of attention I give my interests can range from totally obsessive to suddenly ambivalent. I hope you enjoy!
